About Whistler, British Columbia 

The Resort Municipality of Whistler is located around 78 miles north of Vancouver - about 2 hours via the Sea to Sky Highway - in the southern Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains of the Canadian province of British Columbia. Whistler is known worldwide as a popular tourist destination - drawing over 2 million people from all over the world each year. 

Skiing and Park life 

What draws all these people to Whistler year after year? The Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort. Whistler and Blackcomb used to be two separate ski resorts, that is, until 1997 when the Intrawest company brought the two together. In 2003, the merge was complete, and we now have the truly spectacular Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort.

With 8,171 acres of skiing land - the most in North America - it's no wonder this resort has achieved top rankings in Skiing Magazine, TransWorld SNOWboarding Magazine, and more, year after year. Incidentally, the second largest ski resort is Vail, whose ski area is 5,289 acres. 

Not only does Whistler contain the largest ski area in the world, but it also has the capacity to transport over 65,507 people on chairlifts - that's the largest overall chairlift capacity in the world. This, of course, makes for an enjoyable, likely wait-free, skiing experience! 

In addition to the skiing, you'll be more than impressed with the area's accommodations, which range from quiet condo to luxury hotel. Indeed, Whistler-Blackcomb is more than a resort - it's a ski community with excellent shopping, dining, arts, yoga, spas, entertainment, and more. 

In the 2010 Winter Olympics, Whistler's scheduled to host several of the outdoor events - specifically, most of the alpine, sliding and nordic events.
