Sault Ste Marie, Ontario

About Sault Ste Marie, Ontario

First a town (as of 1887), Sault Ste Marie officially became a city in 1912. Affectionately called "the Sault" or "The Soo," Sault Ste Marie rests on the St. Mary's River and is home to over 70,000 residents.

Things to Do

The Sault Ste Marie Canal has tour boats poised to take you on a beautiful journey through its waters. Beautiful parks, moreover, abound in the area - including Pancake Bay Provincial Park, Batchawana Bay Provincial Park, and Lake Superior Provincial Park.

Be sure to visit the Canadian Bush Plane Heritage Centre and learn about various Canadian heroes and the planes they flew.

In winter, enjoy snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and the annual Boon Soo Winter Carnival - an activity-packed carnival that's been around since 1967 and is now one of Ontario's top 50 carnivals!

Sights to See

When in Sault Ste Marie, visit the Sault Ste Marie Museum. And, be sure to check out the Sault Ste Marie Walk of Fame Marker for Francis H. Clergue.
