The District Municipality of Muskoka (more typically called District of Muskoka or Muskoka) is a popular municipality in Ontario, visited by over two million people every year. It is two hours north of Toronto, and, together with Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton, makes up this excellent cottage region.

Muskoka is such a popular destination because of its vast landscapes, many lakes, villages, towns, farming communities, lakeside hotels and marinas. The district is also known for its great for golfing, country clubs and water sports, like jet skiing, waterskiing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, and more. 

Celebrity Retreat 

Celebrities you may run into in Muskoka include Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise, Goldie Hawn, Martin Short and golf champion Mike Weir - all of whom have a summer retreat in Muskoka. In addition, the soap opera Paradise Falls was shot on location here - naturally, because of the stunning scenery. 

Geography 

Muskoka is a vast and spacious region, composed of six different municipalities - Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Georgian Bay, Lake of Bays, and Muskoka Lakes. At over 2000 square miles, Muskoka has more than 1000 lakes; the three big ones are Lake Muskoka, Lake Rousseau and Lake Joseph.
