Manitoulin Island, Ontario

About Manitoulin Island, Ontario

Manitoulin Island lies on Lake Huron, one of the Great Lakes of North America, which flows between the United States and Canada. The island is part of the Manitoulin District, in the Canadian province of Ontario.

Cottage Delight

Manitoulin Island is the largest freshwater island in the world, and the 174th largest island on the planet. It's sheer vastness makes it a cottager's delight, in addition, of course, to its 100+ lakes, and smaller islands within those lakes - like Treasure Island in Mindemoya Lake (which happens to be the second largest island on a lake within an island in a lake in the world.)

Gordon's Park

When in Manitoulin Island, you must go to Gordon's Park. There you can enjoy camping, tipi tenting, bike tours, bird watching, archery, nature trails, mini golfing, stargazing, relaxing, swimming in a heated pool, playing in the playground, and you can stay in a Bed and Breakfast.

Gordon's Park offers school packages. Teachers can take students there for an outdoor summer-school experience.

Photo Opportunities

Check out the Cup and Saucer Hiking Trail, and the MS Chi-Cheesum passenger-vehicle ferry.
