Things to Do in Cook County, Minnesota

Cook County is such a popular tourist destination because of its natural beauty - its lakes and forests, shorelines and wilderness. With so many wonderful natural resources, there's always much to do!

When in Cook County, the coastal village of Grand Marais is where it's at, located as it is between Lake Superior and the Sawtooth Mountain Range, and surrounded by acres and acres of inland lakes and forests, like the majestic Superior National Forest. Among the many adventurous things to do, you can go hiking along the 205-mile long Superior Hiking Trail, biking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling or snowshoeing through winter moose yards or forests and valleys.

Enjoy the local artists and crafts people, the plays, and concerts. Take in some live music at a Grand Marais pub, and experience the many great restaurants in the region - and their typical North Shore menus.

Be sure to visit the North House Folk School and the Grand Marais Art Colony where you can enjoy a variety of art and art courses (that cater to any age or skill level). The Art Colony, in particular, is Minnesota's oldest art colony (opened in 1947). It's located on the north shore of Lake Superior, in a mission church in the centre of Grand Marais.
