Conception Bay South, Newfoundland & Labrador

About Conception Bay South, Newfoundland & Labrador

Conception Bay South is the largest town in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, and it's the fastest growing. It was incorporated in 1973, when nine communities joined forces. Those nine communities are Topsail, Chamberlains, Manuels, Long Pond, Foxtrap, Kelligrews, Upper Gullies, Lawrence Pond and Seal Cove - all of which reside along the coast of Conception Bay.

Conception Bay South in Music

Johnny Burke (1851-1930) - known as "The Bard of Prescott Street" and a native of Newfoundland - composed a song about Conception's community of Kelligrews, called "Kelligrews Soiree." Today, you can see this song come to life at the Kelligrews Soiree four-day festival, which starts in July. Among the many wonderful all-ages events at the festival, don't miss the famous Kelligrews Soiree folk festival and garden get-together.

Conception Bay South in History

Conception contains one of the oldest waterways in all of North America - Manuels River. This ancient river has been brilliantly preserved. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of famous fossil formations, as well as swimming, picnicking, a mid-July "Watch Your Bobber Race" event, and cross-country skiing in the Winter.

Around the Bay

Conception Bay South is very close to Newfoundland & Labrador's capital city of St. John, and the metropolitan city of Mount Pearl. In fact, the majority of Conception Bay South's citizens go work in either of these two cities. If you're in Conception Bay South, then, you must check out St. John and Mount Pearl.
