The Catskills, New York 

The Catskills Region is located in the state of New York, close to New York City. More specifically, it is just northwest of New York City, southwest of Albany, and west of the Hudson River. The region is probably best known for its legendary Catskills Mountains and quiet charm.

 Things to Do in The Catskills 

The Catskills Region is peaceful and serene - the ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of New York City. Indeed, it is an ideal vacation spot year round, with its historical attractions, antique shops, and wonderful opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, skiing and snowshoeing. 

Be sure to do some shopping on Main Street, where you'll find a variety of really unique shops, as well as the local Farmer's Market.

In the warmer seasons, the region's rivers and streams offer great fishing. In fact, the trout fishing is among the best in the USA. For avid anglers, check out the Catskill Fly Fishing Center, which features various activities and programs.

The ski resorts, in particular, offer year-round activities. In the off-season, check out their dance, music and art events. 

For a beautiful view of the Hudson River, be sure to go to Catskill Point. Don't forget your camera! 

Finally, for a little bit of history, take a walking tour of a 19th-century village, or check out the home of Thomas Cole, who founded famous The Hudson River School of Painting.
