Jasper, Alberta

About Jasper, Alberta

Alberta's municipality of Jasper was incorporated into Canada in 1813 and became a specialized municipality quite recently, in 2001.

Jasper is designated "specialized" because of Jasper National Park, of which it is the commercial centre. Both the Municipality of Jasper and Parks Canada Agency are responsible for tending to this national treasure.

Jasper is located 225 miles from Edmonton, and 180 miles from Banff, Alberta. So, you can easily get to the famous Banff National Park - just take the scenic Icefields Parkway from Jasper to Banff's Lake Louise.

Cottage Delight

Jasper is surrounded by the Jasper National Park, the Canadian Rocky Mountains and the Athabasca River. So, you can imagine how beautiful the scenery is. There are many lakes to enjoy, as well, such as Pyramid Lake, Patricia Lake, Lake Annette, Lake Edith, Lake Beauvert, and more.

The Park

Jasper National Park is the largest park in the Canadian Rockies. There you'll find the glaciers of the Columbia Icefield, lakes, waterfalls, mountains, and such wild residents as the caribou, moose, mule, deer, mountain goat, bighorn sheep, and beaver. Jasper National Park is also home to the mountain lion, grizzly bear, black bear and wolverine.

While in the park, be sure to go to the Miette Hot Springs, a natural Jacuzzi whose temperature is controlled by the mountains. Take a warm relaxing dip, raft, kayak, and more!
