Property Description
Tamar Vacations is a Temagami Ontario vacation location offering both summer vacations and winter expeditions. Tamar Vacations rents Temagami Ontario vacation cottages, Ontario cabin rentals and Temagami houseboat rentals with affordable rates.
Enjoy the serenity and natural beauty of the Temagami region, location of Ontario's oldest pine stands, from Tamar Island with full access to private fishing huts. The region offers a wide variety of activities for Naturalists, Sportsmen and Family groups alike. You can have a full vacation at Tamar whether it be fishing, relaxing (see fishing), snowmobiling, hunting (in season), snow shoeing, exploring or recreational activities. Tamar would like to help you experience Temagami's diverse offerings.
Temagami's Environment
Temagami's diversity is what keeps many outdoor enthusiasts coming back year after year. The protected status of the Temagami forest ensures a unique opportunity to enjoy unspoiled wilderness. Wake up to the cry of the loon. Actually enjoy your mornings!!
Temagami offers almost limitless opportunities, both water and dry land experiences for nature lovers. Located on the Canadian Shield, the region consists predominantly of evergreens. However, birch, maple, poplar and tamarack also grow in patches. Rock outcrops accent the coniferous dominated landscape exemplifying Temagami's rugged beauty.
Fishing is undeniably Temagami's biggest 'lure'. Fishermen come from all over the United States and Canada to fish the lake's crystal waters. Spring angling is always a Temagami highlight year after year for most anglers but don't count out the incredible summer and fall fishing let alone the winter lunkers of last year. Come and try to catch one of Lake Temagami's trophy fish: Lake Trout, Walleye, Pickerel, Small Mouth Bass, Pike and Whitefish all call Lake Temagami home. Our staff will be happy to suggest some prime fishing spots, some of which are only minutes off the shores of Tamar Island.
Photographers will appreciate the region's striking rugged beauty and diverse wildlife. Bird watching is quite good with over 60 species being present during the summer season. Old growth forest and its rare undergrowth offer precious photo opportunities of Northern Ontario's unspoiled wilderness. Don't leave your camera at home!
Often described as Ontario's finest canoe country, Temagami's fame does not come unwarranted. The region boasts 8000 kilometers of interconnecting canoe routes (remnants of first settlers trade routes and portages). The region was once home to the legendary paddler and conservationist, Grey Owl. All paddlers will enjoy Lake Temagami's more than 1300 islands which offer plenty of opportunity for exploration.

Individual Cottage Description
Our cottages are located on the South Arm of Lake Temagami in the heart of Temagami Provincial Forest. Tamar Island (no.856) is surrounded by thousands of miles of wilderness shoreline. Peace and relaxation are spoken here. There is as much or as little to do around the island, depending on your inclinations, as you would like. If you want to get off the island aluminium boats are available for fishing, sight seeing, or trips to Diving Rock, High Rock or Cross Lake.
The cottages are located on the South/West sides of the island. Be sure to visit the front dock for a full day of sun exposure. It is a beautiful spot to sun bathe the day away. Trails that cut through the bush offer the opportunity to explore local areas and provide the opportunity to get away from the bunch .
There are many activities to do on and around the island. Bocce and horseshoes are available to challenge your mates to a game or rent a canoe and go for a paddle around the island. Swimming from the front dock or snorkelling around through the crystal clear waters makes the day for you water lovers.
Visualize cruising around in your Tamar houseboat, fishing, sun bathing (with the occasional dip in the water to refresh) all day surrounded by Lake Temagami's rugged shoreline. Or touring and exploring the lake's many interesting islands and coves via an extremely manoeuvrable watercraft. The perspective of Temagami's incredible scenery from a houseboat is one you won't forget. Traffic on the lake is minimal, especially on the South Arm, allowing you to enjoy your houseboat vacation in peace.
All houseboats are equipped with marine band radios for weather updates, allowing contact directly with Tamar staff in the event that you require assistance. As well, an instruction manual on standard operating procedures is included.
