Property Description
At Coastal Springs Float Lodge we offer a relaxed, intimate fly-in fishing experience. Our full service lodge has been in operation for over three decades and is located on the central British Columbia coast amid the splendor of Knight Inlet.
From the central location of the lodge, we fish Knight Inlet and the surrounding waters for all five species of Pacific salmon, with our main focus on the large Chinook (King or Tyee). Our well seasoned staff will see to it that every effort is made to make your stay a memorable one.
Knight Inlet is prime Black Bear and Grizzly Bear habitat, Bald Eagles, Orcas and other wildlife are abundant, fishing is superb, and the river system supports a phenomenal fall salmon run. Needless to say, the opportunities for nature photography in Knight Inlet are superb.
With ever-changing cycles of nature, each tour is unique. You will discover the excitement of meeting whales, bald eagles, and more in their natural habitat. An unpredictable wilderness, full of surprises, is waiting just for you. You will never forget it!
Your Stay
After your scenic float plane flight to the lodge you will be greeted by our friendly staff. Over a feed of fresh Dungeness crab we will give you a brief orientation and prepare you for a full evening of fishing.
At Coastal Springs, your day begins early with a pre-dawn wake up call and a light breakfast. From the comfort of the lodge, you’ll go out and fish two guests to a boat, with an experienced guide.
The boats are comfortable 17 & 18 foot speedboats equipped with two outboards, a top for rain/sun, VHF radios, depth sounders and everything else required for a successful outing.
The fishing day is long (10-12 hrs.) but, because of the lodge’s proximity to the fishing grounds, we break the day up into 2 or 3 shifts with sit down meals in between.
After each shift, your catch is cleaned, filleted, vacuum sealed and frozen for transport home. Whether you fish every shift or only a few is entirely up to you.
You may wish to spend some time reading a good book, relaxing in the hot tub or doing some wildlife viewing.
Waterfront Description & Nearby Activities
The lodge opens in early May when we begin fishing the upper reaches of the Knight Inlet. The fish are a mixture of 8 – 25 lb. “feeder” Chinook and some larger (up to 50 lb.) mature Chinook.
At times, the abundance of “feeders” affords us the luxury of practicing catch and release. The other highlights of this time of seasons are the spectacular scenery and remoteness of the area. Carved out by a glacier, the upper Knight Inlet provides some of the most beautiful vistas in the world, yet few anchorages or services for other boaters.
In early July, we relocate the lodge to the mouth of the inlet. Here we fish for the migrating runs of all five species of Pacific salmon. With our focus mainly on the large Chinook, we also catch the acrobatic Coho/Silver salmon as well as Sockeye, Pink, and Chum. Another benefit of this location is the opportunity to try a little bottom fishing for halibut, ling cod and rock fish.
