Montreal Attractions

Thinking of a romantic getaway for you and your sweetheart? Think no further than Montréal, it will sweep you both off your feet.

Couples regularly come to Montréal to spark the flame or rekindle an old one. With its gorgeous architecture and quiet cobbled streets, Old Montréal seems made for lovers, who can enjoy any number of charming boutique hotels ensconced in stately greystone buildings. And fusty they’re not – sleek, stylish décor lends a sophisticated touch and the personalized service provides the two of you with just the right amount of pampering.

Montréal understands that the way to the heart is through the stomach. Sharing a tender tête-à-tête over the city’s legendary French cuisine, whose local products are infused with mouthwatering freshness is an excellent entrance to our gourmet scene. Savour it on a quiet terrasse like Chez Julien, or at Bistro Le Contemporain, at the heart of the Musée d’art contemporain, tucked away in a jewelry store café like Birks Café by Europea, or during a candlelit Bateau-Mouche cruise with the dazzling St. Lawrence River as your backdrop.

Melt away the stress at an authentic Scandinavian spa, indulge in a traditional hammam or get glowing in the therapeutic surroundings of a spa in the heart of nature. Arm in arm, you can take an evening stroll or a calèche ride around the hushed streets of Old Montréal, where historic buildings bask in an enchanting incandescence. See that cross atop the mountain? Let the fireflies light your way up to the top of Mount Royal and from the belvedere, gaze at the sparkling city below, or take a leisurely stroll around Beaver Lake and soak up the soft night energy.

When dusk falls, Montréal’s cultural calendar comes alive with entertainment. Step out for a chic evening with the Opéra de Montréal or the Grands Ballets, caress your ears with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, which inaugurated its new home, la Maison symphonique.

Waterfront Description & Nearby Activities

Montreal's long, cold winters may not be for the meek, but a recent New York Times list of Hip Cities has turned snow days into an advantage, citing La Belle Ville's weather as part of the reason for its "real soul" and impressive underground network.
Factor in a strong European influence, topnotch cuisine and vibrant arts, cultural and nightlife scene, and you've got a city primed for the needs of what the article calls a "prosperous global middle class".
The report is part of a special business survey on cities that are attracting droves of the young, skilled and talented thanks to a combination of quality of life factors, work opportunities and smart city management.
It's the combination of these unique elements that gives each city a "hip vibe" and makes them desirable places to live.
With heavy hitters like Shanghai, Berlin, and Barcelona on the list, Montreal figures proudly as the only North American city to make the cut.
The paper cites the city's French and North American mix, low living costs, bilingualism, and long winter evenings at the head of its charms, adding that the weather has forced residents to be creative about ways to keep warm and active during the lengthy winter months.
In particular, the underground pedestrian footpaths connecting various commercial centres and the city's subterranean arts quarter garnered special notice.
Montreal's enthusiastic adoption of the Bixi public bicycle system garnered notice, as did the numerous city-sponsored community gardens and endless outdoor festivals, like the world class Montreal International Jazz Festival, which attracts 2.5 million music lovers each summer.
Other cities tapped as the wave of the future include: Santiago, Vilnius, Cape Town, Copenhagen, Auckland, and Curitiba, Brazil.
