Property Description

This new cottage overlooks the Cains River less than 1 mile below Muzroll Brook and 9.6 miles above the entrance of the Cains River into the Main Southwest Miramichi. It is on a secluded, 10 acre lot located on a high ridge overlooking the Cains River. It is fully furnished, has two bedrooms with a twin bed in each, a full bath, kitchen, living room and is heated by a wood stove and electric heaters. There is a hide-a-bed couch in the living room. Electrical power is provided by a 6500W Honda Generator. It has an electric refrigerator, microwave. Water is pumped from our deep well.

This is lodging for anglers (trout and salmon), shooters (partridge and woodcock), canoers, and outdoors enthusiasts.

Fishing Season/Hunting Season

Spring Salmon: April and May
During this period, a majority of fishing is done from a boat. 8 or 9 weight fly rods with full sinking lines or floating lines with sinking tips are commonly used. Brightly colored streamer flies(for example the Renous Special, Golden Eagle, and Mickey Finn) are usually good choices. The ability to fly cast is not an essential ingredient for successful spring fishing.

Bright Salmon: June – October
During this period, most fishing is done while wading. Traditionally, the most successful anglers have worn chest waders, used an 9 ft or 9.6 ft fly rod with an #8 or #9 weight forward, floating line. The Green Machine, the Black Bear with green butt, the Curry’s Red Shrimp, and the Ingalls’ Butterfly are just a few of the productive wet flies. The Bomber, the Whiskers, and various Wulff patterns are some favorite dry-flies. These flies and many more are tied by the skilled craftsmen of the Miramichi Valley and can be purchased at the Lodge. Recently, the Switch rod and the Spey rod have gained in popularity. They have a distinct distance advantage in windy conditions with high water.

The Cains River is on the flyway for woodcock and provides the potential for spectacular shooting. Partridge hunting is unpredictable and varies from year to year. Recently there have been more moose than deer in this area, but who knows what this year will bring. The winter was unusually mild and deer survival should have been up.

Waterfront Description & Nearby Activities

The Cains River is at the foot of the ridge. This river has superior brook trout fishing during the early summer and excellent Atlantic salmon fishing in late September and October. A canoe trip down the Cains is one you will never forget. The scenery, the wildlife are breathtaking. A Canoe and kayak are provided for your use.

Most of the Cains River is publicly owned. A trip down the Cains River to the Main Southwest Miramichi is an all day adventure.

Additional Bedroom Information

Each bed room has a twin bed. A hide-a-bed couch is in the living room. A roll-away cot is available. These are basic, clean quarters. No curtains allowed.

Additional Rate Information

The minimum booking is 3 days. The weekend charge is $300 Canadian plus hst; the week's charge is $800 plus hst. Meals and guide services are not included.

House Rules

A deposit equal to 50% of booking is required prior to confirmation of the reservation.

Cancellation Policy

The deposit is non-refundable if the request for cancellation is made less than 6 weeks prior to the reserved time.
