SKELETON LAKE

Although Skeleton Lake is the fourth largest lake in Muskoka, the open body of water in Skeleton Lake contains the largest open body of water in all the Muskoka Lakes. It is one of the most pristine lakes left in Ontario, and is often considered the jewel of Muskoka. Many cottagers love this spring-fed lake for its crystal-clear water and abundance of rocky headlands and islands. It also boasts over 30 islands waiting to be discovered. For the boating enthusiast, the shoreline has an abundance of coves and inlets to explore. Skelton Lake is the perfect spot for boating, canoeing, sailing, fishing, snorkelling, swimming, diving rocks, or just listening for the call of the loon.

Skeleton Lake was formed by the impact of a meteor, which accounts for its somewhat circular shape and great depth. That is also the reason for the limestone bottom, which gives the lake its famous clarity - some of the clearest in all of Canada. On a calm day it is possible to see up to 30+ feet underwater with the naked eye.

There are many species of fish that inhabit this lake, which include smallmouth bass, lake trout, speckled trout, brown trout, rock bass and walleye.

Additional Bedroom Information

The large master bedroom enjoys a great view out to the lake with a private walkout to the deck area. The ensuite is exquisite with separate rain shower and air-jet soaker tub. The walk in closet will meet all your storage needs. Stunning views of the lake in two directions from immense windows and capture the morning sun rise.

All of the bedrooms are open and spacious. There is even an instant back-up generator system should the power happen to go out to ensure your luxurious stay continues uninterrupted.

As you can see from the pictures each of the other bedrooms are spacious and tastefully decorated. The children’s room has three single beds and a bunk bed to sleep 5 for the ultimate sleep-over memories - as well as an ensuite bathroom for convenience.

The cottage has a commanding, long view of beautiful Skeleton Lake. Natural granite stone steps grace the main entrance and another set of stone steps lead to the rear deck as well as the boathouse and beach. The cottage is winterized for those who enjoy winter sports and activities. Four-wheel drive is recommended for winter access.

Fees & Deposits

Additional Rate Information

Payment is normally in Canadian dollars but can be made in U.S. dollars by request. We will accept a personal cheque, wire transfer or credit card (see below). Payments within Canada may also be done by email transfer (fast and simple, only requires you are signed up for online banking) or at no charge by direct deposit (ask for details).

Deposit To Reserve
Your dates will be held on reserve when we receive a minimum of 30% deposit. The deposit becomes your security/damage deposit upon payment of the full rental fee and will be returned to you after the inspection. Payment of the full amount due, including the security deposit, is required 90 days in advance.

Once a payment has been received, we will contact you by email to confirm receipt of funds and your booking dates. Your booking will be confirmed and guaranteed once we receive the full rental fee plus the damage deposit.

Return of Security Deposit

If you have complied with our Rental Agreement, we do not hold back any part of the security deposit for normal cleaning. It is your responsibility to advise us of any and all damage or broken items as soon as they occur. Major damage is assessed and deducted from the deposit (rare). If there is extensive cleaning required, we will deduct a nominal fee (usually $200) for this service. In all but a very few cases, the full deposit is expected to be returned within two weeks of a departure.

Arrival and Departure Times

Summer full weeks run from Sunday to Sunday, with arrival after 3pm and checkout by 11am. Please respect and adhere strictly to these times in summer. If we have a weekend-only rental or vacancy before yours we will advise you and may be able to offer an earlier arrival time. For most other times of the year and on weekends, we are flexible on arrival or departure times.

Information Required by Us

We require complete home and work address and telephone information for the person acting on behalf of the group. For large groups we may request this for a second person as well. We will also need a phone number for an emergency contact or next-of-kin. At some point before the rental date, we may require a list of full names/numbers for everyone arriving (with ages when requested). This information is kept confidential and is only gathered for temporary reference purposes.

Policies

Rental date is held upon receipt of the initial deposit.

Booking is guaranteed once we receive payment in full.

We provide “right of first refusal” when several enquiries exist for the same dates.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING anywhere inside our buildings. Please respect this rule as we offer a non-smoking, allergy-free place for other guests. If smoking evidence is found, we will deduct a sizeable portion from your security deposit for extra cleaning.

Guests are welcome but please advise us in advance.

No drugs, wild parties or irresponsible behaviour is tolerated on our property.

No guns, firearms or other weapons, including Paintball are permitted anywhere on our property. Fireworks are not allowed without our prior approval.

There are no other fees or hidden costs beyond the quoted rental fee and HST tax

Cancellations and Refund

In the event you are forced to cancel your plans and booking, our policy is to give you back as much of your payments as possible. If we are able to rent your time slot at a comparable rate, we will return most of your deposit, holding back only a small administration fee.
