This well-maintained, fully-equipped cottage for rent is located along Lake Huron approximately two minutes drive North of the town of Kincardine.

Situated on a spacious property with full sun and mottled shade, this private retreat features five bedrooms and a total of 2200 sq ft of space with a very large deck and front and back yards. There is a separate 500 sq ft cabin for privacy when accommodating guests or extended family.

The cottage is surrounded by environmentally protected forest which is home to diverse wildlife, particularly a broad species of birds unique to the coastal habitat. One of the most beautiful and extensive sand beaches in the area is accessible by stairs approximately 450 ft from the property. The gradual walkout allows all ages to enter the water safely.

There is a huge family room of 450 sq ft with a large sofa, board games, gas fireplace, stereo, and TV/DVD. A sliding door from the family room goes out to the 600 sq ft deck built around mature birch trees and featuring a bbq, picnic table, lounge chairs, and an additional four seat cafe table and extensive bench seating. The kitchen is fully equipped including a microwave, dishwasher, and small appliances and is also stocked with nice dishware, serving plates, spices, and most everything you may need to prepare and serve excellent meals. The dining room comfortably seats six and there is an additional round table which seats four. There are two 4 pc baths and a 2 pc bath.

The back yard features a full-sized beach volleyball court with many tonnes of sand in it as well as an area for horse shoes, a fire pit, two large decks, and ample room to play on the lawn or in the sand. The drive can easily accommodate 6+ vehicles...some guests have brought a camper trailer for the kids to be setup under the large tree in the driveway.

Area Information

The world famous Bruce Peninsula is a 1.5hr drive with its incredible scenery and recreational activities including dinner cruising on the MS Chi Cheemaun ferry or boarding the glass-bottom boat to Flowerpot Island. The unique conditions and historic ship wrecks of the peninsula also make it a world class diving destination and the Bruce trail is unbeatable for hiking, camping, and mountain biking.

The Lake Huron Shoreline in and around Kincardine offers an exciting diversity of natural and cultural attractions for people of all ages. Come experience it for yourself and discover all it has to offer!

Waterfront Description & Nearby Activities

The stairs to the beach are approximately 450 ft from the property. The horseshoe-shaped bay has a secluded feel since little or no development is visible from most vantage points. Local cottages are on a forested bluff overlooking the lake and thus the beach feels pristine and undeveloped.

Even on the most beautiful days of summer the beach has few people by comparison to other sandy beaches in the area and is almost exclusively used by the local community of cottagers. The water in the area is clean and unpolluted and has never had high levels of bacteria since there are no creeks or waterways entering the lake along this bay.

The broader area is loaded with attractions from boutique shopping, restaurants, and theatre, to golfing, sailing, trail riding, hiking and fishing. Kincardine itself is home to the Bluewater Theatre Festival and frequently hosts other cultural events such as the Scottish Games. The town hosts a weekly flea market in Victoria Park as well as an organic/local food farmer's market. The marina in Kincardine is bustling in the summer months with its beautiful dunes, boardwalks and beaches accommodating swimmers, sunbathers, cyclists, and beach volleyball.

After a day at the beach families can enjoy the Scottish parade on Saturday evenings where all are invited to march along and perhaps get an ice cream cone along the way at the roadside stand. Families can also watch as the lone piper 'pipes down the sun' from the historic lighthouse.

There is a conservation area with walking and cycling trails located approx 200m up the road from the cottage and Inverhuron provincial park is 8 mins away with plenty more trails with unique dune topography. The Saugeen River is approximately 1/2 hr away and there are canoe and kayak rentals and pick-up service for those who wish to paddle the river.

Additional Bedroom Information

The five bedrooms include a large master bedroom with queen bed and sliding glass door to deck, second, third, and fourth bedrooms with queen beds, and a fifth bedroom with a single bed. Blankets and pillows are supplied, but renters must bring linens and towels.

Off-season weeks in May and early June through to September are available at reduced rates -- please inquire.

House Rules

Renters must ensure the place is left clean and tidy. The owner is there between renters to ensure the place is kept to a high standard of cleanliness before the next party arrives. New renters are asked to submit a $200 cheque post-dated to the last day of their stay to offset costs if the place is damaged beyond ordinary wear and tear or left uncleaned -- please be assured that it has never yet been necessary to use the deposit and it has always been returned to the renter when they vacate the premises. Return renters are not asked for a damage deposit.

Cancellation Policy

Deposits are non-refundable unless we are able to fill the cancelled period, in which case a partial refund may be provided.
