“central To Everything, But The People Make The Difference”

Posted on April 8, 2013, 10:44 am

We stayed at the Narrows for two nights. Our room was located on the main floor of the main house -- the owner, Ann, was very accommodating at making sure we were on a lower level of the B&B. The room was lovely -- comfortable bed, ceiling fan, full bath -- we were pleased.

We were able to go all over St. John's -- sometimes driving, sometimes walking. St. John's is extremely hilly, so if you have mobility issues, you might not want to attempt to walk. However, the Narrows provides a parking permit that is good in most of the downtown locations (if you can find a parking spot!!).

Breakfast the next morning was served "family style" on the second floor, and this is where the true value of the Narrows lies as we met Brenda and Cindy and Ann. With big hugs and stories of Newfoundland, Brenda pulled out a map, showed us what to see and almost as important, showed us what not to bother seeing. The next morning Cindy gave us insight into Labrador, and Ann was there to guide us to the best restaurants as well. We dined the second night at The Casbah -- strongly recommended.

We recommend the Narrows, and had a very pleasant stay!

The Rock

Posted on April 8, 2013, 10:44 am

We recently returned from a vsit to the 'rock' and started our trip there with 3 nights at the Narrows. Great location, clean and comfortable, like home with a sitting area with a TV next to our room, good food, but most of all Brenda. We could not have had a warmer welcome, big hugs to start with and stories, super suggestions on what to do and see, a special deal to see a fabulous dinner theatre at the masonic hall, restaurant recommendations and lots and lots of laughs. Her breakfasts were a 'down home' experience always served with humour and real caring. An older couple had decided to visit but found they could not rent a car or a room after a couple of days at the Narrows, so Brenda showed them around the town in her own truck and on her own time!

Brenda represented to us everything we had always heard about what 'Newfies' are like. She is intensely proud of her province and it shows. We loved the people and the place!

“exceptional Service And Comfort”

Posted on April 8, 2013, 10:43 am

My husband and two other travelling companions spent 4 nights at the Narrows B&B in St. John's from August 7 to 10, 2012. This was our first time in NL. We all agreed we had "lucked in" with our choice to stay at the Narrows! Our first contact when we arrived was with Brenda, one of Ann O'Brien's staff members. She welcomed us with a big hug and showed us to our rooms. Brenda is a wonderful person, very funny, helpful and passionate about her job. Both she and Ann provided us with information on where to eat, what to see and where to shop. A delicious breakfast was prepared each morning by either Brenda or Cindy, providing options if someone favoured a menu item over another. Ann O'Brien, the owner, has a beautiful place. The guest rooms are split between two attached buildings which are ideally located close to the St. John's Harbour providing easy walking to key sights. Our room was very comfortable, with a Queen bed, ceiling fan and ensuite bathroom. The sitting area in the breakfast area provided a very comfortable area for guests before and after breakfast and during cocktail hour for those who wished to relax with other guests and Ann. We will definitely return to the Narrows B&B and will recommend this wonderful and comfortable B&B to others.

More Than Location

Posted on April 8, 2013, 10:42 am

Recently stayed at the Narrows during a visit St. John's. Totally lucked into finding a room there, as the folk festival was on and everything was booked. We were lucky not just too have a found a place to stay - but to have found the Narrows. Not only were we a stones throw (literally) from downtown, but Ann and Brenda were truly delightful; beyond friendly and welcoming. And Brenda's pancakes are killer! Highly recommended.

Found By Mistake But Definitely Will Be Back

Posted on April 8, 2013, 10:42 am

While traveling to St John's on business I couldn't find a hotel room on short notice. I wanted to avoid staying in an airport area hotel so I chose The Narrows B&B for it's downtown location. From the very first phone call I felt like I was being taken care in contrast to the lonely feeling at large hotels. I was reminded to pick up a FREE parking pass and room key the first morning even though check-in wasn't until later that day.

While I only had time for breakfast on my last day, I was invited into the kitchen with a hug and a 'where have you been?' from Brenda (who makes fantastic poached eggs). Overall a very comfortable, secure, and affordable stay. Can't wait to come back with my wife and more time to spend.

“can't Wait To Go Back”

Posted on April 8, 2013, 10:41 am

Started our first trip to Newfoundland at the Narrows and finished it there. It couldn't have been more welcoming, lovely and fun. The room was comfortable and spacious with a particularly luxurious bed. The bathroom was new and spotless. The cleanliness of the entire house was impeccable. There is a very nice common area with full internet access in the living room/kitchen. We were greeted every morning with delicious food and warm hugs. Only a few short blocks from the restaurant and shopping district, on Water Street. Anne (the proprietor) and Brenda (her assistant) were very helpful with recommendations of placed to eat as well as to visit. In fact, as we had arrived with no set plan, they took the time to plan out a 3 day tour of some of the rest of the island and made the reservations at other B&Bs for us. Also, we had a rental car and Anne arranged for free permit parking on the street in front of the house. It was splendid. Can't say enough good things about these lovely, generous and warm ladies.

“wonderful, Warm, Accommodating People”

Posted on April 8, 2013, 10:40 am

We spent an entire week at the Narrows B&B and had a wonderful time. The staff were warm and friendly and very accommodating to our needs, quite honestly going above and beyond to ensure that we had a wonderful stay. Our room on the ground floor was large, clean and perfect for our needs. Breakfast was delicious. The price was extremely reasonable, especially considering that we had a beautiful room, ensuite bathroom and were literally 5 minutes from the harbour and right in the middle of downtown. I would certainly recommend this to my friends, and we will definitely be going back.

Beautiful Place!

Posted on April 8, 2013, 10:40 am

My husband and I ended up at The Narrows after finding everything in town full and we were very pleasantly surprised. The Narrows is right in the middle of downtown, convenient to everything with parking available right in front of the house. We don't stay in many b & b's because we prefer private bathrooms, at least a queen bed and our own tv--the room we had at the Narrows offered all. It was a charming place to spend a night. We had to leave early for the airport and fixed our own breakfast from the cereal, yogurt and coffee that was left for us. We would be happy to stay at the Narrows again, whether it was the last room available or not.
