Property Description

Merkel's Camp is situated on a beautifully treed point overlooking Wabigoon Lake with housekeeping wilderness cabins and RV sites right on the lakeshore. Merkel’s Camp has been operating since 1963 and is a family tradition. In all aspects Merkel’s Camp is 100% owned and operated by Canadians. It began with Terry’s grandparents, Clarence and Violet Merkel. Together they built four cabins and their home.

Terry has been a part of the camp all his life; beginning with riding the bulldozer as it built the road into camp and later helping out in all aspects of camp life as he got older from dockboy to guide and all the dirty jobs in between! Terry purchased the camp in 1983. Since then we’ve added another larger cabin, more fully serviced trailer sites and a "Drive to Outpost" cabin, one hour from our main camp.

We live year round at our camp and work very hard to create an atmosphere that makes our guests want to come back, again and again. We have an ideal location on Wabigoon Lake and most guests rarely venture further than 1-3 miles from camp for excellent fishing!

You’re Pleasure is our Business! This has become our motto due to the excellent service and accommodations we’ve provided for our guests in the past years. We have had many compliments on our camp and have built a strong return clientele. We’ll be providing this same quality of service & accommodations for many years to come!

Hunting & Fishing

Fish numerous sheltered islands on Wabigoon or Dinorwic Lake. Venture into one of the many chain lakes connected by winding creeks and rivers. The scenery is spectacular and the privacy is guaranteed. Wildlife is abundant and there are countless nooks and crannys to explore. The Wabigoon, Dinorwic area is an exhilerating reminder of why you love to come back to Canadian waters. Fish and explore with us - you won't forget it! Pre-baited active stands on arrival, assistance with tracking (if necessary), retrieval and skinning.
Not Included:
Ministry of Natural Resources Hunting License, Export Fee, Accomodations, tree stands. Please bring previous hunting license from US to obtain a hunting license in Ontario.
Grouse and Duck Hunts available upon request.

A deposit of $500.00 per person is required 15 days after booking to confirm reservation & $500.00 60 Days prior to hunt. DEPOSITS TRANSFERABLE NOT REFUNDABLE. Please bring a previous hunting license from the U.S. Solid Hunter Orange Vest & Hat required at all times. All Hunts Saturday - Friday.

Waterfront Description & Nearby Activities

Little Basket Lake Outpost Cabin
Our 24' x 48' outpost cabin is located on Little Basket Lake with water access to Big Basket. Our modern cabin has 3 bedrooms and will accommodate up to 10 people comfortably. The conveniences of home await you with hot and cold running water, bathroom, shower and sink plus a wood stove. The power is solar generated with a generator for back up so you have total peace and quiet. You'll find the large fully modern kitchen/living area to be ideal for socializing. An evening in the screened porch brings a perfect end to a day on the lake. What a great place to talk about the day's catch while listening to the loons and watching the northern lights. The 14' x 16' sauna, dock and sandy beach beckons you to swim and enjoy yourself. Our screened in fish cleaning house with running water is a great addition.

Merkel's Bed & Breakfast
When you stay with us, you also enjoy the use of a paddleboat, canoes, kayaks and available boats to rent. Our accomodations include two very comfortable bedrooms with a shared three piece bath. In your living room area, you can enjoy satellite TV, VHS, DVD machine along with a propane fireplace to keep you cozy. A fabulous view of our secluded bay awaits you outside your door. We are located just off of the main snowmobile trail in Northwestern Ontario. Our facility will accomodate from 1 - 6 people.

RV Sites
Lakeshore RV sites are available at Merkel's Camp. Come and stay for a day - a month - the season! Includes full hook-ups, shower house, laundromat, lakeshore sites, boat rentals, lake tours. Daily fishing trips arranged. Fishing Equipment Available for First Time Fisherfolks.

House Rules

Due to the high cost of equipment, guests are responsible for physical damage done to boats & motors, cabins and all rental equipment.
Guests bringing their own boat are required to have all the safety gear applicable to the state the boat is registered in including lifejackets. When renting boats from Merkel's Camp you must have our lifejackets in the boat at all times.
The M.N.R. requires fish to be wrapped in clear plastic. Please bring your own zip lock bags.

Cancellation Policy

Deposits are transferrable within the same year but not refundable.
Exceptions can be made.
