Colpoy's Bay - Bruce County
Wiarton is a small tourist community located just 3 miles away. It has everything available that anyone would want and shopping is great in this unique little town. Beautiful Bluewater Park has hiking trails, boat launching facilities, playgrounds, picnic areas and a sandy beach. The community of Colpoy’s Bay, just north of Wiarton was settled a decade before the nearby town of Wiarton. This lakeside village, founded in 1863, stretches along the shores of Georgian Bay. Once home to sawmills, a general store, church and community centre, the village also has a pier, a classic place to fish or take photographs of a wide swath of the Niagara Escarpment that dominates both side of Colpoy’s Bay.
Continuing along Bruce County 9, a right turn onto Road 18 will take visitors into the Purple Valley. Named either for a purplish haze that hangs over the farm fields or for the profusion of wild blue flag iris that grow along the road, Purple Valley is home to a long-running annual maple syrup festival each spring.
Drive on to Mar just a few dozen kilometers north of Wiarton on Highway 6 and home to one of the best and longest-running flea markets in Bruce County. No, Mar was not named for the planet but for Braemar, one of the ancient Celtic earldoms of Scotland. Continue up Highway 6, and you will arrive in the beautiful sea-side village of Tobermory, where several daily runs of the Chi-Cheemaun will take you over and back to Manitoulin Island.
The area at the base of the Bruce Peninsula is rich in inland lakes like Berford, Boat, Skye and Issac, where pan fish await your bait. You can hike, bird, mountain bike, or explore the Rankin River wetlands in a canoe.
Waterfront Description & Nearby Activities
Our cottage is located on Colpoy Bay, a small inlet of Georgian Bay and is located 3 miles north of Wiarton. We are within a 3 hours drive of all major centres in south-western Ontario. Wiarton, a small tourist community of 2,000 people sitting at the base of the Bruce Peninsula, is home to Wiarton Willie, the famous Canadian white albino groundhog who forecasts the arrival of spring every February 2nd. The shoreline in front of the cottage has a gradual smooth stoney slope into the water and is great for swimming, fishing, kayaking and canoeing. There is a road between the cottage and the pristine waters of the bay. There is also a small sandy beach within a 5 minute walk from the cottage and an area to launch a small fishing boat. Bluewater Park, the gem of Wiarton, has walking trails, playgrounds and splash pad for the children, a boat launch, picnic areas and a sandy swimming beach. There are several other small sandy beaches in the area also suitable for swimming and Sauble Beach, known for its 7 miles of white sandy beach is only 20 miles away. We are 50 minutes to Tobermory where the ChiCheemaun ferry transports vehicles and people daily to Manitoulin Island and northern Ontario. An entrance to the Bruce Trail, a hiking trail that spans from Niagara to Tobermory, is directly behind the cottage. There is so much to do and see on the Bruce Peninsula and we hope that you will make our cottage your home, whether you are playing in the sun and sand or exploring and enjoying the beautiful Bruce.

Great Place, Great Vacation
This is our first time renting this cottage. We loved it and the area. The cottage was even better looking in person and nice and clean and ready to use. This cottage provides all the best of the Georgian Bay experience, with all the comforts of home. The owner of this cottage has done a great job of updating the house and property and making it comfortable for renting. We hope to continue to come again.
