Property Description
Featured in Janette Higgins 'Best Places to Bed & Breakfast in Ontario'
On your way north? In Barrie on business? Skiing nearby? Whatever the reason, Richmond Manor bed and breakfast is a handy B&B to know about. Hosts Pam and Bob Richmond lucked into this Georgian-styled home and fulfilled their dream to start a bed and breakfast. Centrally located, and backed by woods in an older section of town, it's in a perfect spot. I was able to walk to a restaurant where I had an excellent meal while looking out over Kempenfelt Bay at lights gleaming across the water.
Former Richmond Manor owners have included a Mayor and a Judge so, yes, it has the kind of features you'd expect including gracious principal rooms, and upstairs a large hall off which you'll find the two guest bedrooms and a small sitting area with TV and magazines. The bedrooms are a good size, and in each you'll find lace balloon curtains and fine examples of Pam's tole painting. The Lafayette Room is the largest with a queen-size cherry four-poster bed plus a couple of Bergere chairs, a plum leather wing chair and a gas fireplace. It has a small adjoining room with a single bed. Down the hall, the Williamsburg Room is done in peach, teal and white with a homespun bedspread on its double brass bed. References to America’s historic Williamsburg are found in Pam's art and a hand-hooked rug.
Next morning, breakfast is in the formal dining room. Along with juice you'll have something like ruby-red poached pears or fresh berries, perhaps followed by whole wheat pancakes with honeyed apple slices. I had a bacon-cheese casserole and a sour cream apple coffee cake. I was impressed. It was Sunday night in the off-season and they had no idea they were having a B&B guest (let alone a critic) until I knocked on the door at nine that night. After breakfast, the Richmonds can tell you about the area's attractions I was interested in a self-guided walking tour of Barrie's historical homes. Next time.

This was my first time in a bed and breakfast and I must say I was very impressed! The Richmond's made us feel right at home in their beautiful house. We stayed in the Lafayette room with the fireplace; it was a large room very tastefully decorated, with a beautiful view of the bay. We had a wonderful candlelite breakfast which comprised of fresh orange juice, coffee, fresh fruit with yogurt, french toast, sausage, homefries and cake. Would definately return to this B & B.
