Bowen Island Hideaway is a Bed and Breakfast located just a 10 minute drive from Snug Cove on beautiful Bowen Island. The house is located in an isolated pocket of the island surrounded by forested mountains and overlooking Killarny Lake. It is quiet, serene and peaceful. The rooms are spacious and luxurious with a modern west coast feel.

Our rooms feature soaker tubs, king or extra long twin beds, private entrances onto south facing patios, radiant heated polished concrete floors and a small kitchenette. A Jacuzzi 7 seater outdoor hot tub is available for guest use. It is a lovely place to relax on cold fall and winter days.

For those who simply can't turn it all off you have access to our wireless network, television (no cable) and a DVD player. Outside enjoy the view of Killarney Lake and Crippen Park along with the sounds of the wind and the song birds.

Deer, humming birds, song birds and large birds of prey are regular visitors to our property. At night enjoy the expansive sky. See how many constellations you can find.

A gourmet breakfast is included with your stay and will be served in the privacy of your room or on the deck if weather allows. Our Bed and Breakfast is a great place to come for an extended retreat. We have had guests stay here to finish books. PhD Thesis, compose music, paint and also just to be alone. We offer discounts for extended stays. Please inquire.

More Information

If you are staying 2 nights or more it is advisable to have your own car or a bike on Bowen.

Heidi, David live with their young son Ryan on this little piece of paradise. They share the house with a free range rabbit, Bijou who will probably try to visit you on your stay here. The family enjoys swimming at Bowen Bay beach or Mt. Gardner dock and picnics by Killarney Lake. Heidi, who is the host of the Bowen Island Hideaway, enjoys exploring new baking and cooking recipes, painting and learning about the natural world around her.

Heidi is lucky enough to have 32 other hosts who help her at the Bed and Breakfast. Mary and Gigi. Everyone lives on island and are happy to share with you their ideas on how to enjoy Bowen Island.

Environmental Philosophy

Bowen Island Hideaway strives to use environmentally neutral cleaners, organic gardening methods and provide mainly organic and local foods. All our vegetable and fruit wastes are composted and used in the garden and cleaning materials are reusable. Our water is drinkable. It is from a well on the property which is tested yearly. In addition, we have a built-in filtration and UV system which filters and sterilizes the water before it gets to any tap in the house. Our water is clean and free of chemicals. Please do not bring bottled water to the house. This just adds unnecessary waste.We are conscious of our carbon foot print and drive a hybrid gas/electric car.

Waterfront Description & Nearby Activities

Explore our hiking trails, go swimming in the ocean and perhaps catch a local music concert or theatre show. Just sit on the patio and read a book that has been waiting for you to find the time. Take your binoculars and look for birds on our acreage. Or just have a long deserved nap. At the end of the day, relax in our outdoor Jacuzzi hot tub.

Nature Activities:

There are numerous hiking trails on Bowen Island. Two of the most popular destinations are: Mt. Gardner, which rewards hikers with a breath taking view of the Sunshine Coast, Lower Mainland and Washington State; and the Killarney Lake Loop, which passes through awe-inspiring Red Cedar and Hemlock forest alongside the lake. The Killarney Lake Loop trail can be easily accessed from Bowen Island Hideaway. We would be happy to give you directions when you arrive.

For those with a greater sense of adventure there are four scuba diving sites on the island as well as kayaking and sailing tours.

This is an island; beaches abound. The most popular are Sandy, Tunstall Bay and Bowen Bay beaches, which offer amenities such as toilets, garbage cans, parking and easy access. Mt. Gardner Dock is a beach very close to Bowen Island Hideaway. Although not large, it has great views and is rarely visited, except by a few locals. Bowen Island Hideaway offers aqua shoes and beach towels for guests who would like to go swimming on our rocky shores.

Individual Unit Description

Bowen Island Hideaway has two private guest suites (Fiddle Head Suite and Fox Glove Suite) with large ensuite bathrooms and kitchenettes. Each room was designed to allow you your maximum privacy.

Hot Tub:

A 7 seater Jacuzzi outdoor hot tub is available for guest use. It features 4 theraputic masssage chairs and is ozonated to reduce our use of chemicals. It is a lovely place to soak and enjoy the view on cold fall and winter days. Please bring your own slip on shoes for use to get to the tub and back.

Menu:

Breakfast is served each morning at 9:30am either in the privacy of your room or upstairs in the main dining area if you are a party of 4 or more. If weather permits we serve breakfast on the outside deck. The menu varies and is a reflection of what foods are in season and available on the island. Most of the foods we use are organic and many of the foods you will have here have been grown or created on Bowen. We can accommodate people with minor food allergies and sensitivities including milk and flour allergies if given notice at the time of booking.

Fiddle Head features an ensuite bathroom with large soaker tub, kitchenette, eating area, heated polished concrete floors, private entrances and your choice of King or 2 extra long Twin beds

Fox Glove features an ensuite bathroom with large double soaker tub with airjets, kitchenette, eating area, heated polished concrete floors, private entrance and your choice of King or 2 extra long Twin beds

Pets are $10+HST/day extra (please bring a blanket for your pet to sleep on)

Pets and Children Policy:

Pets are welcome with a $10 per day surcharge. Pets must be under thier owners control at all times and are not allowed into the main area of the house. Please keep in mind that there are other guests on the property and our pet rabbit Bijou is allowed to roam outside. Please ensure that your pets have something to sleep on.

Children are also welcome but parents must stay with the children at all times when on the property. This is a natural untamed environment with areas where children could easily fall a large distance and severely hurt themselves. Please inquire about the suitability of our property for your child. Children 0-12 are free.
