The Periwinkle Cottage is a charming cottage in the woods with a lovely ocean view. The Periwinkle Cottage is tucked in the woods above a cove one mile south of the northern tip of Campobello Island and within walking distance of the beautiful East Quoddy Head Harbour Lighthouse and the Head Harbour wharf where working fishing boats dock and Whale Watch Tours take on passengers. The East Quoddy Head Lighthouse is one of the most photographed in the world . At low tide you can walk on the ocean floor to go over to the island the lighthouse sits. The Periwinkle is a 2 room cottage with an expansive deck for bird and whale watching and a lovely view of the Pasaquoddy Bay. Enjoy dining alfresco with eagles and ospreys flying overhead and the sounds of whales feeding in the cove below. Easy, close-up views of whales are frequent in the summer and early fall. This is a private and charming retreat surrounded by trees and Adirondack chairs on the cliff overlooking the water
Whale watching tours should be at the top of your list of activities on your Nova Scotia vacation. The best whale watching can be found throughout the province, from Cape Breton’s world famous Cabot Trail, to the Bay of Fundy’s Digby Neck, and in the south, from the beautiful South Shore near Lunenburg to Metro Halifax. The tours will show you not just whales but also other Atlantic marine wildlife including seals and sea birds in their natural habitat.
Imagine sitting in a boat on the ocean, so close to a whale that you can look it in the eye! Nova Scotia has some of the world’s best whale watching cruise tours. The sight of whales lunging, diving, blowing and ‘breeching’ in the ocean is an unforgettable vacation experience and truly awe-inspiring.
The Bay of Fundy is a marine paradise because the waters of the bay are important feeding grounds for many whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals and sea birds. Watch humpbacks—the clowns of the sea—frolic and breech, marvel at the huge finbacks, and meet the friendly minke (pronounced "ming key”) whales. If you’re lucky, you might even spot the Atlantic White Sided Dolphins or the rare North Atlantic right whale (one of the rarest in the world).
