The lodge received its name from the river it overlooks, the Matabitchuan. It all lies within the TEMAGAMI FOREST RESERVE and adjacent to the ONTARIO GAME PRESERVE. We are accessible by water or air. The Lodge sprawls over a hill from Rabbit Lake to the river and was built by Warner Bros. for the movie 'Captain of the Clouds.' There are well over 100 Km of old brush-roads plus many wilderness trails for hikers, mountain bikes, ATVs as well as for skiers and snowmobiles. Also unlimited waterways for canoes.

Something For Everyone

Fishermen

There are numerous lakes and rivers for fishing. Rabbit Lake, Collins lake and the Matabitchuan River provide trout, bass, pike and pickerel (walleye). Winter Fishing in heated fish huts. Excellent snowmobiling with miles of wilderness trails.

Hunters

Moose, black bear, partridge are plentiful due to the nearness of the Ontario Provincial Game Preserve. Thousands of square miles to hunt in.

Camera Enthusiasts

The camera hunter, in the summer months, will find shots without number with which to quell nostalgic restlessness on winter evenings. The lordly moose may be seen among lily pads in many a secluded cove. Bears with their cubs will pose for their pictures if taken unawares. To those seeking privacy and seclusion, Matabitchuan Lodge is an ideal hide-away.

Individual Unit Description

The one bedroom or three bedroom cottages are fully equipped with a propane stove, lights, fridge, woodstove for heat, dishes and cutlery and running water. The non-polluting outhouses are clean and there is a central shower/sauna with hot water. All you need is food,towels, a sleeping bag, camera and any other things that you may consider essential.
