Ratings & Reviews
Its too bad the other reviewer is so nasty but then having known the owners for several years now, ever since I first started staying at their place in 2001, I can truthfully state that most people who don't like their policies are the types of people no accommodation operator would want in the first place.
I've been a hotel owner for 6 years myself and I have been on the receiving end of similar reviews and they all originated from people who were unhappy simply because they did not get their own way in regards to late check-out, my own "No Visitors" policy, etc.
However, I would NOT trust that nasty review as its almost exactly what a guy said to me who operates other properties for rent in Nordegg when I had called and wanted somewhere to stay since the cabins were full. He didn't give me chance to say I usually stayed at Cheechako but was extremely negative about the Hostel, Aurum Lodge, and Coliseum Mtn. Resort as well. Seems to be the only way that guy can get business.
I have had occasion to read other reviews by this person and and have seen the dates stated they were here. This person only looked at our reservation calendar and did not know we were closed for a private family function.
It is unfortunate property owners are not given the ability to address this type of review, particularily when it is false and malicious.
We post our policies on our web site so there is no misunderstanding, and prevent problems which occur in many other resorts.
I have never experienced a more inhospitable stay.
It is remarkably difficult to know where to even begin. I guess with their rules pages. Review the rules online before booking. The rules are harsh, and worded with extreme hostility. Here are a sampling of some of the rules that will get you fined:
-1 minute late for check out, a full day charge, and you CANNOT stay
-1 dish in the cabin that needs rewashing leads to a $50 fine
-guests come to VISIT (not stay the night) means a $35 fine (per person per night you are staying regardless of how long they stay, i.e. not even 1 hour)
-Guests are repeatedly threatened with fines, police or vigilante punishment for breaking the rules in the rule book that is displayed prominently upon arrival
The rules at the cabins are too stringent (especially considering the price) and the wording is mean-spirited and needlessly harsh. A bewilderingly terrible stay. 0 out of 5 stars.
We have visited each summer for a number of years and have enjoyed our stay every time. The cabins are clean, clean, clean! Everything you need is there...bbq, full sized fridge and stove, microwave, satellite tv and all you need is a toothbrush and enough food for your stay. The surroundings are beautiful and there is lots to do. The owners are friendly and accommodating and provide information that allows guests to go safely go snowbiling, quading, fishing, hiking, etc. I don't know where that person who wrote such a terrible review stayed, it sure couldn't have been here.
First visited Cheechako Cabins many years ago and have been going ever since. Cabins are always cleaner than my own house, my dogs are welcome and I don't have to go into a smoking room like everywhere else I travel with my dogs. Don't know where the other reviewer stayed but I don't think it was here as the road that leads to the cabins is partially paved and we were driving a Smart Car the last time we were there and its in a sub-division with almost 400 other people. Everytime we go we drive around to see how many more homes and cottages have been built. I've sent many, many people to Cheechako Cabins over the years and have heard nothing but great things about other people's experiences which also made me look really, really good with my boss when he stayed there with his wife. My wife and I even decided to get married in Nordegg and spent the rest of our honeymoon there in 2008. Would highly recommend Cheechako Cabins to anyone who wants the mountain views and wildlife outside of the parks. Its quiet, clean, peaceful and my wife is often in tears when we have to leave. If we could swing it we would move there like friends of ours did a few years back. They had stayed at the cabins too and loved the area so much they got jobs in Nordegg and moved there. In fact, the last time I called to make a reservation, my buddy was sitting in their kitchen having coffee with the owners. Hope this review helps others who truly want to stay at the best place in the West.
