THE MAIN COTTAGE on Badour Island, was designed and built by Jonathan Rousham and was written up in Fine Homebuilding.
It is a beautiful post and beam cottage, with windows everywhere. The floors are pine, there is an open plan kitchen, dining room, and living room. A wood burning stove sits in the middle of the large room. The ceilings are two floors high, with a second set of windows on all four sides 16 feet high. It looks like a pagoda.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher and trash compactor. There are many pots and pans, including a wok, and many small appliances such as a cappuccino machine, coffee grinder, coffee maker, waffle maker, electric ice cream machine, Sunbeam mixer, blender, toaster, microwave, food processor etc.
We have a water purification system and the water is safe to drink from all the faucets. We also have a water cooler, which takes the 5 gallon water bottles.
There is a large deck across the front of the cottage that wraps around to the back where there is a gas bbq. There are hammocks and swinging chairs on the property. There are tables to eat out on the deck and chairs to relax in as you take in the beautiful view of the lake.
In back of the cottage is a shed with a washer and dryer, a half size basketball court with mural, and an outdoor [hot] shower.
The dock [79 steps down] has a deck with two Adirondack chairs, a swinging bench and a chaise lounge, a shed with refrigerator for cool drinks and storage for tubes, fishing poles, water skis and paddles.
The dining table seats 8 comfortably, but can be extended to fit 10, 12 or even 16 by adding on any of the three outdoor tables that are the same height and width.
Most people bring their iPods, but there is a CD player in the living room. There is also a ping pong table, chess set, board games and puzzles.
The Tree House And Basketball Court
THE TREE HOUSE IS THE COOLEST STRUCTURE.
It is on an adjacent plot of land, has a double bed, rocking chair, deck, skylight, stained glass window, a mural of Bobs lake, a lead beveled glass front door and a handicapped ramp in the back, built for out poodle who liked to be up there with me, It is very romantic and has no electricity.
The Basketball Court
Our children LOVE basketball and spend as much time on the court (a half size court) as they do in the water. Rachael led a group project a few summers ago which resulted in the wonderful Bobs Lake mural that you see above. The court is lit at night.
If the basketball players will let you, you can do other things on the court, such as badminton, volleyball, yoga, tai chi, jam (see photo on right), have an exercise class or just plain meditate.

Badour Island Compound Guest House
The guest cottage sits a few yards away from the main cottage. Downstairs is a large living room.
The guest cottage has two covered porches, one downstairs and one off the bedroom on the second floor each with a gorgeous view of the lake. (Actually, that was the spot I had picked for the main cottage, but the builder changed the location on me and had all the posts in by the time I had arrived – so the guest cottage got the best view).
Upstairs is a beautiful bedroom with a queen size bed, air conditioner, telescope, skylight that opens and another covered porch with an even more gorgeous view of the lake.
