My family rented this cottage over the Thanksgiving holiday. The place is pretty stunning and I was planning to return each year however the property manager never returned my security deposit of $500. If you don't mind paying the extra $500 I would recommend, but I've been renting cottages for over 10 years and I've never had this kind of dishonesty. It's really a shame because the cottage is one of the best I've seen.

We rented cottage in February 2012 and had great time, planning to rent it right away for next year. We booked cottage February 2011!!!
There were no reviews then!
While leaving Manager, Thevor was on the property... He could do inspection, but we were so sure everything is OK!
We took garbage with us (stated in agreement it will be charge if left).
In the contract was stated that $150 will be held to cleaning.
When I called with questions, I received mixed answers, that he did not see cleaners report, that cottage should be in the same stage we moved in: linens, towels...
I was in shock!!! Did he meant we had to wash linens????
But then for what did we paid rent? And for what do we pay $150?
By February two negative reviews were already here.
Now I see more people ended up in the same situation.
This should be put to an end!!!

The place is nice. The manager is Untrustworthy. Hasna€™t returned the deposit since the last winter. Never happen to us before in Canada.

I rented the Tall Trees Cottage for a Girl's Getaway and it was even nicer than the pictures and we were very pleased with how clean the cottage was. I have found the property manager Trevor very helpful and easy to deal with. The large deck overlooking the lake was a great place to spend a sunny afternoon. The beds were all very comfortable as were the furnishings and the cottage suited us so perfectly we have already rebooked! A great time was had by all and we're looking forward to the next one!! Very dishonest manager. Owner lives in Europe. We rented the cottage in June 2011. Did not return $500.00 of deposit. Gave several excuses re. Canada Post (twice), the mail bounced back etc etc. Told us that the inspection was clear and no charges would be incurred. We cleaned the whole place b4 leaving, utensils washed, kitchen and counters cleaned, and took all garbage with us and basically left the cottage in its original look. But to date we have not received the deposit back. Stops answering emails and calls after a month. We threatened to take him to court and he said "Sure, come all the way here to file your grievance"

I feel it is important that guests talk about the complete truth when it comes to deposit returns. The contract agreement that is signed by ALL guests states that any cleaning or damage is to be taking off the security deposit. If for some reason the deposit is not returned it is due too a few reasons! We do answer all e-mails, and we try to return all calls in a timely manner. I stayed at Tall Trees 1 with my family this summer(2011).The house itself is quite nice. The beach is essentially non existent. The dock behind the main house is shallow, muddy and full of plant life: essentially not fit for swimming. The other beach is tiny and all but inaccessible. The dock house, the volleyball courts and the fire pits were quite nice.
My biggest complaint is that despite receiving several assurances that we would receive our deposit back, that all had checked out at the final inspection and that the check was in the mail (twice), I still haven't received a penny. The excuses were that there was a new billing accounting system in place . Then it was the canadian mail. Then they stopped taking or returning phone calls or email.
We paid in a timely manner .. I would have hoped they would have extended the same courtesy.

The house and setting was beautiful but unfortunately the experience was ruined because Trevor did not return our deposit of $500.00 We have tried repeatedly to call him and email him and he no longer responds. This has been going on now for 6 months. We left the cottage cleaner than when we arrived and we even did the laundry. So there could not have been any problem with how we left the house. We even cleaned up a mess that occured after the downstairs sump pump backed up while we were there. Trevor never even thanked us for cleaning up after that problem which could have easily been avoided had he told us to run the pump while we were there.

I feel bad that I have to resort to writing a bad review for such a beautiful cottage just because the manager refuses to pay back the deposit of $500.00. I just don't want others to have to lose their deposit as well.
