Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall: Ontario Cottage Tourism

Cottage country in Ontario is among the most beautiful in North America. Maple trees, elms, evergreens, surrounding some of the largest, most pristine lakes in the world. Wake up to the call of the loon, the sound of oars dipping into smooth waters reflecting the rising sun. The smell of cedar and pine trees. The sound of little feet pitter-pattering on the docks. These are the sounds, sights, of cottage country in Ontario.

Over 250,000 lakes, 100,000 km of rivers, stunning beaches, massive green forests, Niagara Falls, Algonquin.... Winter, spring, summer or fall, Ontario offers some of the most beautiful cottaging spots in North America.

Cottage just outside some of Ontario's most fabulous cities, in Huntsville or Haliburton, for example, and indulge in the great shopping, five-star entertainment and dining in big-city Toronto! Or, just take it easy and enjoy the quaint little towns rife with character, dense forests, crystal-clear lakes, charming antique stores, artists and historical marvels - there's always, as the slogan goes, something to "discover" in Ontario!

For some outdoor winter fun, rent a quaint cottage near the Rideau Canal in Ottawa and skate on the Canal itself - which happens to be the world's largest skating rink! Try to go during the Winterlude Festival, and enjoy the concerts, ice sculptures, and family activities. Voyage to the Collingwood Blue Mountain Resorts for major family fun, including some of Ontario's best skiing and snowboarding.

Any time of year, discover Ontario's magnificent parks. Algonquin is among the most famous. Take a canoe, kayak or hike. Of course, go camping, swimming, picnicking. Walk among the winding paths and enjoy the stunning fall colours. Be sure to bring your camera on every adventure and enjoy the stunningly diverse plant and animal life.

Some of the most famous cottaging spots in Ontario are, no doubt, located in Muskoka, Parry Sound, The Near North, Huntsville, Haliburton, Gravenhurst, Kawarthas, Port Carling, Orillia and more. The spectacular natural beauty of these destinations is what Ontario and, indeed, what Canada is all about.
